The seminar will deal with the proposed measures that, it is hoped, may go some way to reducing bankruptcy numbers in the future.
The seminar will accomplish the following tasks:
- provide an introduction to the current personal insolvency regime;
- explore the reasons for the debt crisis and rise in personal insolvency numbers, paying particular attention to the effects of legslative change;
- examine the trends in personal insolvency and the consequences of these changes for debtors and creditors alike;
- look at the new statutory measures to tackle over-indebtedness and assist the socially excluded, including a new County Court Administration system, Enforcement Restriction Orders, Debt Relief Orders and Debt Management Schemes;
- deal with the rise of IVAs and the effect of new protocols; and
- look at the future for IVAs, including possible new forms of IVA.
Who should attend?

Regulation, risk and compliance - Is your firm fully prepared for changes? (The Law Society)
various dates through September 2008 various locations
CPD Hours: 2
The Legal Services Act 2007 introduces major changes to the legal landscape. In particular, the arrival of the Solicitors Regulation Authority has altered the approach to regulaton and further changes are likely. The new Code of Conduct is already being amended to enable the establishment of Legal Disciplinary Practices and the introduction of firm-based regulation. It is vital for all solicitors to understand and keep pace with the rules and regulations governing the profession. Firms must act now to ensure that they are fully prepared to deal swiftly and effectively with disciplinary and regulatory matters in a rapidly changing world.
